Oya Salon - Team

The Oya working environment is one of intense creativity, teamwork, and personal achievement. In an industry where independence is the norm, hair stylists are asked to participate as a group in the Oya vision.

All stylists have taken part in Oya’s advanced educational training program. Our staff works on a Level System, which measures experience and years of dedication to the industry. Those at higher levels are often our educators. Promotions to a new level within the Oya system are an opportunity for the stylist’s advancement and personal growth. We provide stylists at all levels to best suit our client’s needs.

Brian / Advanced Stylist and Owner

Brian Bode began his career in hair design at age eighteen, enriching himself in an artistic surrounding of fashion, art, and hair. His family, creators of the international hair product company Sebastian International, provided initial inspiration and raised Bode within the industry. Bode travelled for ten years as an international platform artist for Sebastian, Joico, Icon and Fudge. Today, Bode is a P&G Salon Professional Top Talent Artist and Educator for Sebastian and NIOXIN. He recently styled at the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week 2011 and frequently travels around the country with Nick Arrojo as an editorial stylist. Bode is owner of the renowned Oya Salon in Monterey, California. Oya has received national recognition and was rated as one of the “hottest and best” salons in the Western United States by Harper’s Bazaar, acclaiming Bode as “the master, [one of] the true artists of color, cut and style.” Bode’s work has been featured in magazines such as Marie Claire, Modern Salon, Harpers Bazaar and Carmel Magazine. Currently, his work can be seen on the runway, national hair shows and as the Creative Lead for NIOXIN.

Anathea / Manager, Makeup Artist

Anathea's passion for makeup artistry grew out of her love of painting as a child. Anathea attended the Makeup Institute in San Francisco and has been doing makeup ever since. For the last three years Anathea has managed Oya Salon and her unique skill set makes her a valuable member of the Oya team.

Lauren / Salon Coordinator

Lauren's background in graphic design led her to Oya as an addition to the front desk staff and Oya's marketing team. Originally from Michigan, Lauren is energetic and enthusiastic about customer service.

Shimeko / Stylist

Shimeko got her start apprenticing under Brian Bode at Oya Salon. Coming from a long line of stylists, Shimeko is passionate and excited about what she does. With over four years of experience Shimeko creates beautiful styles that are not only classic, but cutting edge at the same time.

Courtney / Stylist

Courtney graduated from Vidal Sassoon in Santa Monica. Following graduation, Courtney moved to the Monterey Bay area to further her education by assisting Brian Bode at the Oya Salon. Courtney specializes in short haircuts. Her cuts have a natural flow and bounce, giving her clients an effortless look.

Kelleigh / Stylist

Kelleigh attended school at Salinas Beauty College. Upon graduation Kelleigh joined the Oya team as Brian's assistant. She specializes in color and is working towards becoming a Wella Color Master. Kelleigh has a talent for color, creating natural tones and eye catching hues.

Brittany Lee / Stylist

Brittany Lee graduated from Marinello's School of Beauty. Upon graduation Brittany began an apprenticeship program in Carmel. To further her education, Brittany joined Oya as Brian Bode's assistant. Her dedication and work ethic have made her an asset to the salon. Brittany Lee enjoys cutting hair and her time as an assistant has played a major role in developing her passion for hair.

Carissa / Stylist

A Monterey Bay native, Carissa graduated from Shoreline Cosmetology School. To further develop herself as a stylist, Carissa has been assisting Brian Bode at Oya for the last year. As part of the apprenticeship program Carissa learns from some of the best in the industry. As a team player, Carissa is a great addition to Oya. She enjoys the creativity that comes along with color and cutting.

Claudia / Stylist

Claudia joins Oya with over 13 years of industry experience. She received her cosmetology license and went on to pursue education as a colorist. Claudia graduated from Gene Juarez Advanced Academy of Hair, receiving her Color Specialist degree. She has traveled the world, styling hair in Japan and Europe.

Alex / Assistant

Originally from the Monterey Bay, Alex attended Sacramento City College to pursue her cosmetology education. Upon returning to the Monterey area, Alex chose Oya Salon to further her education and receive hands on industry experience. Alex is currently assisting Brian Bode and excited for the opportunity to learn and discover her passions within the hair industry. .

Sehra / Assistant & Stylist

A Monterey native and recent addition to Oya, Sehra has been passionate about hair since middle school. After exploring different career paths, Sehra decided to turn her passion into a career. After attending Wayne's College of Beauty Sehra worked as a stylist in local Monterey salons and now joins Oya as an assistant to Brian Bode and as a part-time stylist. Sehra believes in continuing education, a foundation of our mission, and she looks to continue advancing her skills with us at Oya.

Natalie / Guest Stylist

Natalie graduated from the Paul Mitchell Academy in San Francisco. Choosing to stay in the city for education and experience she began assisting and now has over four years experience in the industry. She relocated to Monterey and has been a part of the Oya team for two years.
